4 Ways To Reduce Car Park Building Maintenance Costs

If you’re designing a new car park or refurbishing an existing car park, finding ways to reduce long-term costs, as well as maintain a clean and welcoming car park environment, can be a challenge.

Here are four ways you can meet that challenge by reducing maintenance costs and keeping your car park looking good for years to come.

1. Protect walls with an anti-corrosive coating

Car Park PaintThe combination of high levels carbon dioxide and moisture in car park environments can lead to the formation of carbonic acid, which corrodes re-inforcement bars and causes spalling of concrete faces.

CS Armourglaze® is an extremely tough polyurethane wall coating which prevents the formation of carbonic acid due to it’s high diffusion resistance to carbon dioxide and water. Combined with anti-carbonation, Armourglaze has both anti-chlorine properties prolonging the life of reinforced concrete.

2. Cover car park joints with waterproof zip block seals

Car Park JointThe constant heavy traffic in multi-storey, underground and car parking decks creates demanding building movement challenges requiring structural expansion joints, and the need to cover these joints to prevent water/debris falling through and accidents.

Unfortunately, traditional winged seals with elastomeric concrete covers often fail, as wheeled impact causes hairline cracks in the concrete covers. Over time, cracking becomes more severe until the entire seal wing pulls away.

The solution is CS Zip Block® seals, a one piece EPDM elastomeric sealing system. The shoulder of the Zip Block is substantial enough to withstand wheeled impact, and is joined on both sides resulting in an extremely durable and watertight joint system.

3. Protect walls, corners and columns with rubber not steel

Car Park Crash BarrierColumns and corners are amongst the most vulnerable areas of any car park, but protecting every surface with steel crash barriers can be costly and unnecessary.

CS Acrovyn® rubber crashrails and corner guards in tough EPDM rubber have excellent shock absorbing properties to protect underlying surfaces as well as being extremely weather resistant. They can be easily fixed directly to concrete, steel or masonry.

4. Reduce the cost of vandalism with an anti-graffiti coating

Cark Park Anti-GraffitiThe continuous battle against graffiti can be both costly and frustrating. No sooner do you remedy an affected area, then the vandals are back causing more unsightly damage.

CS Armourglaze® has a high cross-linked density that produces an impervious, tough, tile-like surface that prevents graffiti from penetrating. Graffiti removal products can be safely and repeatedly used on it’s surface without affecting the long lifespan and reflective gloss finish of the Armourglaze wall coating.
