The interiors of buildings such as hospitals, schools, hotels, offices, restaurants, retail environments and leisure facilities are all subject to extensive wear and tear from people, trolleys, chairs and a wide variety of other objects.
Among the most vulnerable areas are the corners of walls which can quickly become seriously damaged without some form of impact protection.
Here at CS we’ve been protecting building interiors for over 50 years with our wide range of sheeting, handrails, crashrails and corner guards in Acrovyn, rubber and stainless steel.
But when it comes to corner protectors for walls which should you choose? Here are some quick guidelines to get you started:
Scenario #1 – The Busy Hospital Corridor
Hospital corridors need protection from both pedestrian traffic and wheeled traffic such as beds, wheelchairs and all manner of trolleys. In addition, any protection needs to match the hospital colour schemes as well as meet high levels of hygiene and infection control.
In this scenario our heavy/severe duty SM20 and SSM20 corner guards in Acrovyn are a great choice as they flex under impact to protect the underlying wall. Acrovyn itself is a tough and hygienic “through colour” material specifically designed to minimise and hide the effects of impact damage through it’s pebblette surface finish.
Acrovyn corner guards are also a popular choice for treatment centres, surgeries, schools, colleges, offices, retail environments and hotels.
Scenario #2 – The Commercial Kitchen
The kitchens of restaurants, caterers and other commercial food preparation environments need to maintain high standards of cleanliness, hence the predominance of stainless steel equipment which is tough and easy to clean.
In this scenario our heavy duty 40A and 75A stainless steel surface mounted corner guards are the natural choice. In robust 1.6mm thick stainless steel, they are easily installed with construction adhesive and are available with cranked edges to accommodate wall irregularities.
Stainless steel corner guards are also a popular choice for supermarkets, leisure centre shower areas, pharmaceutical areas and laboratories.
Scenario #3 – The Delivery Area & Loading Bay
Back of house delivery areas and loading bays are a tough environment to protect. Damage from vehicular traffic and large loading trolleys is common and there are often both indoor and outdoor areas that require protection.
In this scenario we’d recommend taking a look at our heavy duty 75C and 100C corner guards in tough EPDM rubber. Suitable for fixing directly to concrete, steel, masonry and timber these corner guards are great at absorbing shocks and also have excellent weather resistant qualities.
Rubber corner guards are also a popular choice in car parks, factories, distribution centres, plant rooms and baggage handling areas.
