The term barrier matting is on the way out (see below) however the need for an effective barrier to mud, dirt and water at building entrances certainly isn’t.
CS Tetras entrance carpet tiles are the latest addition to our range of highly effective entrance flooring system solutions. Here are five reasons to give Tetras a try:
Reason #1 – Extremely Efficient Performance Reduces Costs
Tetras are 500 x 500mm hard backed carpet tiles which are extremely efficient at removing and holding moisture and dirt at the entrance to a building – drastically reducing cleaning costs as well as wear & tear on expensive interior floor finishes.
Reason #2 – Open Yarn Construction Aids Easy Cleaning
Tetras are great at stopping dirt at the door, but what happens to that dirt. Conventional loop and cut pile carpet make it difficult to remove dirt from traditional entrance carpets. The open yarn construction of Tetras makes the removal of dirt significantly quicker and easier.
CS Tetras – easy to install, clean & maintain
Reason #3 – Easy Installation Options
Tetras can be either loose laid or installed with double-sided carpet tape or tackifier adhesive. A broadloom or chequerboard effect can easily be achieved by either aligning the tiles in one pile direction or alternating with a 90 degree turn of the tile. Tetras can also be easily installed alongside our aluminium entrance flooring systems.
Reason #4 – Equally Easy Maintenance
Whilst Tetras are extremely hard wearing and have excellent wash and light fastness characteristics, accidents do happen. Should one of your Tetras tiles get damaged you’ll no longer have to replace the whole entrance mat. Simply lift out any damaged Tetras tiles and replace. Entrance flooring maintenance just got a whole lot easier.
Reason #5 – Versatility
Tetras can be installed on their own in the building entrance or in addition to an aluminium entrance flooring system to extend the drying and clean-off zone. Tetras can also be surface or recess mounted. And last but not least the CS Tetras tile concept minimises waste from installation, as well as allowing easy on-site installation of more interesting entrance flooring shapes and designs.

A quick note: whilst it is still used, the term “barrier matting” is in decline. As well as suggesting a barrier to entry, the term no longer reflects the wide variety of scraping, wiping and dirt retaining components of effective “entrance flooring systems” – which is now the more widely accepted terminology.
CS are a member of the Entrance Flooring Systems Association and were heavily involved in the development of “BS 7953: Entrance Flooring Systems – Selection, Installation & Maintenance”.
So RIP “barrier matting” and long live “entrance flooring systems”!
