Helping Buildings to Breathe
Accredited by:
Audience: Architects & Designers
Today’s louvres go well beyond function; they allow buildings to breathe and they elevate façade design. This seminar will examine why louvres are used, the design and performance benefits of various louvre types, as well as design challenges and key specification considerations.
Learning objectives:
- Describe the reasons for using louvres in buildings and main product categories
- Become aware of design options available for louvres and methods of integration into the building envelope
- Identify key performance aspects of ventilation and rain defence louvres and become familiar with essential terminology
- Understand how weather louvres are tested and how to compare their performance
- Develop an understanding of additional performance requirements for louvres and typical accessories
- Know how to specify louvres
Audience: Engineers
This seminar provides a brief overview of louvre types, design options and façade integration, before moving onto key louvre performance characteristics, as well as testing and resulting classifications. Vent area and pressure drop calculations, additional specification criteria and typical accessories are also covered.
Learning objectives:
A CPD attendee should be able to understand:
- What louvres are and why they are used in buildings
- What louvres are manufactured from and how their design impacts on the airflow and rain defence performance they provide
- How to ensure functional requirements are met without compromising overall design
- How weather louvres are tested and why it is important to specify to meet the building’s ventilation needs.
