3 Examples of Waterproof Expansion Joint Systems

Waterproof_Expansion_Joint_CoversWaterproof expansion joint cover systems are often needed in areas such as car parks, sports stadia and event venues.

These buildings will always have Expansion Joints in one form or another which will typically need protection from the weather whilst allowing for multi-directional building movement due to thermal expansion & shrinkage, building settlement and wind sway.

Mastic is often used as a seemingly cheap and easy solution for plugging smaller joints, however the long term costs associated with mastic can be surprisingly high:

  • Mastic suffers from weather damage and surfaces often start to become brittle after only 6 months
  • Mastic often requires replacement every 12 months
  • Un-replaced mastic can look unsightly and lead to moisture getting in
  • Mastic does not cope well with building movement.

With that in mind here are three Waterproof Expansion Joint Systems that will help protect your building and provide a more cost-effective, longer term solution.

ZB Series

Perfect for car parks and areas with high rolling loads, the Zip Block (ZB) is a one-piece, extruded EPDM elastomeric seal with integral nosings, which is bonded to the substrate with high strength epoxy adhesive.

Suitable for joint widths from 25mm to 100mm and able to accommodate movement of up to +/-50mm, the ZB series is quick and easy to install, and suitable for retrofit applications.

PDS Series

Suitable for stadiums and arenas these watertight systems are available in four standard frame depths to suit project requirements and are supplied in either aluminium (PDA) or stainless steel (PDS) capping.

The systems incorporate an extruded Santoprene gasket, capable of accommodating up to +/- 60% movement of the joint width.

PVC wing seals can be used to tie the system into adjacent waterproofing systems.

KB Series

An all metal expansion joint cover system, specifically designed for parking structures, featuring a patented turnbar housing which reduces lateral load damage from heavy wheeled traffic. The special design of the centre plate offers maximum strength yet minimal interference with pedestrians. KB Joints are supplied with a Moisture Barrier as standard.

Please note, the majority of our expansion joint covers can be supplied with a moisture barrier helping to make them watertight. Please contact us for more information.
