Good to Give:
Care Home Garden Room Refurbishment
A couple of months ago some of our colleagues spent a day volunteering at the Fremantle Court in Aylesbury. We were made really welcome there and could see first hand the dedication, professionalism and passion of the staff in caring for the residents. Everybody was really grateful for our help, but somehow we felt that we just didn’t do enough on the day. So the idea for a makeover of one of their garden rooms emerged.
The room adjacent to their courtyard garden was boring, beigy-brown and simply uninspiring. They wanted to brighten it up and ‘bring the outdoors in’ for the residents to enjoy throughout the year.
Our Acrovyn by Design mural fitted to one of the walls achieved exactly that. A tranquil image of a summer garden was a firm favourite amongst the residents, who got actively involved in the selection process. We also supplied our Wallsheen coating in a matt finish, which got colour matched to one of the accent colours in the image, to brighten up the remaining walls.
Both products were expertly applied by CS’ own Michael Johnson, who deserves a special recognition here for handling the install on his own, and also dedicating some of his own time on one Saturday to complete it.
Light furnishings and carefully selected accessories provided by the care home’s team added finishing touches to the space, which has been truly transformed – see the before and after photos.
A few of our representatives attended a grand opening of the room, with cutting a ribbon, thank you cards, speeches and refreshments. Most importantly to us there were smiles on resident’s faces which made it all worthwhile.
