Located in Birmingham City Centre, Birmingham Children’s Hospital provides a wide range of children’s health services for young patients from Birmingham, the West Midlands and beyond, seeing more than 257,000 patients a year.
As part of the hospital’s continued commitment to providing state-of-the-art medical facilities and creating a child-friendly environment, one of the busiest wards in the hospital has recently undergone a £300,000 refurbishment.
In just a few weeks, the outdated worn décor of the general surgical ward (Ward 9) has been transformed into a lighter, brighter, and more modern environment for the children, using CS’ Acrovyn Wall Protection Sheet.
Ward 9 is one of the busiest patient areas in the hospital treating around 1,400 children and young people every year, so it was important to select interior finishes that would last.
To protect the walls and provide a bright and modern look, strips of Acrovyn Sheet in 4 colours were applied to the walls of the ward and the adjacent corridors as well as complementary Acrovyn corner guards and door kick plates to complete the protection scheme, and tie in with the rest of the ward.
Now Birmingham Children’s Hospital can continue to deliver a high standard of care in a child-friendly environment, without the worry of ward maintenance issues and damaged interiors.
Speaking about the £300,000 refurbishment, Janet Turberville-Green, Ward 9 Manager said:
“Our new ward looks like a completely different place; it’s lighter, brighter and finally our children have a playroom that they can enjoy. It’s hard being in hospital when you’re a child which is why it’s so important for us to have a relaxing, bright, inviting and healing space for them.”
